4Runner Topsites
Toyota 4Runner Topsites was a dedicated platform for listing and ranking personal websites of Toyota 4Runner owners. The site served as a valuable directory for enthusiasts to discover popular 4Runner-related websites. It was also an excellent resource for webmasters to showcase their sites, allowing them to gain exposure and attract new visitors from the 4Runner community.
Launched in 2000, 4Runner Topsites became a hub for Toyota 4Runner owners to connect and share their personal websites. For webmasters, it offered a great way to see how their site ranked against others while promoting their vehicles, modifications, and knowledge within the enthusiast community. At its peak, the site boasted nearly 100 active members who were passionate about maintaining their sites and engaging with others.
Unfortunately, as forums and platforms like YouTube grew in popularity, the number of owners maintaining personal websites steadily declined, dropping to fewer than 10 by 2019. This, combined with the introduction of PHP 7.x (MySQLi), caused compatibility issues with the Topsites platform, which was built on outdated PHP 5.x (MySQL). With the lack of active member sites and the inability to update the code, 4Runner Topsites was ultimately retired.
